A few years ago I read the most amazing book. It was February, so it must have been about four years ago? (I only remember the month because it was a book club book that my friend Stella picked. I always can remember our book club books by the month we in which we read them. My mind is freaky like that.)
Anyway, I’m wondering if you’ve ever heard of it? Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption is the true story of Louis Zamperini’s astonishing journey from the Olympics to being a POW in Japan and back again. It is an amazing read. My poor family was subjected to listening to large portions being read aloud by me, a good portion of which was through choked back tears or partially-restrained laughter. I don’t normally do that. It was just that good.
And now, Angelina Jolie is producing a movie based on the book. It’s due out in December and I can. not. wait. If you are a reader (and if you aren’t then you should be ;-)), then pick up the book before hand. It’s long, so the movie will definitely leave some parts out. You’ll do yourself a huge service to read it through.
In the meantime, here’s the movie preview:
